Nicola Volpi graduated in Business Administration at Milan’s Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi, before achieving a specialization in Finance at SDA Bocconi.
In a career spanning over 25 years, Nicola Volpi made his name providing consultancy and assistance during Buy Out operations and was one of the founding Partners of the global private equity firm Permira, which managed funds worth 25bn Euros. He was CEO of Permira Associati SpA; managing the group’s Italian business, as well as being a member of the global Permira Executive Committee. Under his aegis, the private equity fund went from strength to strength, making several acquisitions of sector-leading firms, such as Ferretti Yacht, Marazzi, Valentino, Sisal, TFL and Veneta Cucine. All of this was achieved through a total investment of 2.3bn Euros and which saw returns double that of capital outlay. Prior to this, Nicola Volpi was in charge of Sanpaolo Finance’s Leverage Finance division (the investment banking arm of the San Paolo Group – today Banca Intesa), and was instrumental in financing the first ever Buy Outs in Italy as of 1987. Nicola Volpi was member of the Board of FC Internazionale Milano SpA, and sits in the Board of Horacio Pagani SpA, after becoming a shareholder in 2014.
